Ms. Patricia Lilieth Carty
April 24, 1964 - January 8, 2015
Patricia L. Carty was the seventh child of eight children. When she was four years old, family members and friends saw something special in this child. She was always willing to help others and would do things without you asking. When Patricia became an adult, she decided to become a nurse, which was well-fitting due to her personality. After working evenings and nights as a nurse aide in order to pave as well as pay for her tuition, Patricia became a registered nurse in 1988. She diligently worked at the bedside of patients from 1988 to 2003. Patricia obtained a Master of Science in Nursing from Howard University in 1997. After obtaining her master’s degree, she began teaching nursing students on a part-time basis. Some of the students recommended that she start her own business. She thought about it and decided to do just that! In 1997, Patricia started the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX) Review Class for students who wanted to pass the state examination on their first try. After teaching the NCLEX Review Class for some time, the students praised her knowledge and skillset and told her she should open her own school. Patricia attempted to open a licensed practical nurse (LPN) school, but could not produce the funds required to open one. Instead, she settled for opening the nurse assistant school, Tender Loving Care (TLC) Nurse Aide Training. In 2008, Patricia opened the TLC Nurse Aide Training Center, fully accredited and approved by the Maryland Higher Education Commission and the Maryland Board of Nursing. It was not an easy task in getting the school approved, but Patricia was determined to do so. Patricia left her full-time Nurse Educator position in the Nursing Home and became the full-time Director of her school from 2008 through 2014. Shortly after opening TLC Nurse Aide Training, Patricia became ill in 2009 and kept her illness quiet while working through the battle. She fought long and hard to continue teaching and helping students pass the state exams on their first try! In 2014, Patricia decided to stop working because of pain during her battle with cancer. Patricia is survived by her loving mother (Martha Carty), three sisters (Sherron Carty, Doreen Carty and Yasmin Carty), four brothers (Dennis Hamilton, Lloyd Carty, Patrick Carty, and Paul Carty), six nieces (Shernita Carty, Sophia Carty, Erika Magana, Nichole Magana, Sherron Cato, and Rayonna Carty), four nephews (Keyon Hamilton, James Napoleon, Jeffrey Williams, and Amari Carty) and a host of cousins, family and friends. Patricia is now joined with her loving niece, Latonia Carty, who passed in 2010 and father, Adolphus Carty, who passed in 1996. Rest Peacefully
